An engines charging system is generally a battery maintainer not a charger. Using the onboard board system often will shorten its life and the regulators life. We used be told in AC Delco training that it took 2 hrs of running a car or truck to recharge a battery that would light the lights but nit crank the unit. SOP now is to substitute a replacement battery and bench charge the other. Try finding the connections to jump start some of the new cars, and in a couple years we are starting to see 42 volt systems. That should make big sparks when hooked up incorrectly. Max
